First transfer of tasks from Land to island territory

Deputy Zita Jesus-Leito (General Affairs, PAR) states that the Board of Governors aims at receiving the first package of authorities from the Land during the week of February 15th. This first package contains, amongst others, the tasks regarding Traffic and Transport; Education and Social Development, Economical Affairs.

PHILIPSBURG--Antillean Justice Minister Magali Jacoba is giving undocumented persons living in the Netherlands Antilles six weeks – from November 3 to December 15 – to legalise their status before she launches intense immigration controls on all five islands.

“Without debt reconstruction, Curaçao will experience a true doom-scenario with serious social-democratic consequences”, the Chamber of Commerce (Kamer van Koophandel) states in a press release, reverting to the referendum coming Friday. The press release contains an advice to the Board of Governors from the Chamber as an advisory body of the local business, trade and industry.

The Island Council has approved the concepts consensus-statute laws Financial Supervision and Police Curaçao, St. Maarten, and Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba in a debate that lasted for hours and gives a look ahead at the coming campaign on the way to the referendum to be held on the political future of Curacao.

For more than a year the island of Curacao, now part of the Netherlands Antilles, is preparing itself for an autonomous status within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. In the weeks to come the government of the Netherlands Antilles will be informing the public on the relevant agreements between the partners in the Kingdom on this issue and the underlying reasons to enter into such agreements. Because soon (expected already in April 2009) a referendum will be held. This first information page is an introduction of the Kingdom agreements on the constitutional future of Curaçao.

Financial restructuring of Land has started

The Dutch State Secretary Ank Bijleveld-Schouten (Kingdom Relations, CDA) has ordered the start of the Antillean financial restructuring scheme. The ministry of Homeland Affairs and Kingdom Relations has meanwhile ordered to deposit 98.4 million guilders in an account of the Bank of the Netherlands Antilles (BNA).
Busy time for new member Cft Ivan de Windt

The College financial supervision held for the first time a press conference in her total capacity yesterday. The members nominated by St. Maarten and Curacao (respectively Roland Tuitt and Ivan de Windt) were recently appointed after the Order in Council for the Kingdom temporary financial supervision was established in November for these future countries.

A 5.5; that is the report mark that the chairman of the College financial supervision (Cft) Hans Weitenberg would give for the budget that Curacao submitted to the college. Near satisfactory, but rounded down. “In view of our own credibility, we must be strict.”
Cft budget 2009 does not meet criterion

The budget of Curacao for 2009 does not unconditionally meet the criterion set in the Order in Council for the Kingdom (AMvRB). This is stated in the advice that the Council of financial supervision (Cft) sent to the Governing Body (BC) this morning. The Cft urges the BC to come with a concrete plan in order to meet these conditions.
