Deputy Zita Jesus-Leito (General Affairs, PAR) states that the Board of Governors aims at receiving the first package of authorities from the Land during the week of February 15th. This first package contains, amongst others, the tasks regarding Traffic and Transport; Education and Social Development, Economical Affairs.
Jesus-Leito indicates that the additional authorities for the Board of Governors will not include an increase of the number of deputies. In connection with the expansion of the task-package of the Board of Governors, the initial intention was to increase the number of deputies from six to nine. However, that decision was reversed, “as it would cost too much time to induct three extra deputies now, and we do not have that much time left either”, says Jesus-Leito. I had launched a proposal not to increase the number of deputies, but to offer them extra support.”
She announced this morning, that her proposal had been approved at political level in the meantime. Three experts, preferably with experience at land level, will be supporting the deputies.
Minister Adriaens’ tasks
The first tasks to be transferred, comes within the compass of FOL-Minister Maurice Adriaens’ responsibility (Traffic and Transport). There had been a meeting between the Minister and the Deputies Jesus-Leito and Mike Willem (Finances, PAR) yesterday morning to get the transitional process going. According to Jesus-Leito, the meeting had gone well. In first instance, it was agreed that the directorates Aviation, Navigation and Maritime Affairs, Meteorological Service, and Department Telecommunication and Post (BTP) would be transferred. These directorates will come within the compass of FOL-Deputy Anthony Godett’s responsibility (Infrastructure).
A protocol expanding the tasks’ transfer for the island territories will be drawn up during the coming period. The island territory Curaçao has composed a team, which will coordinate the entire process and ensure that all legislation is adjusted.
Meetings with Leeflang
Jesus-Leito expects meetings will be held this week with Education-Minister Omayra Leeflang on the transfer of tasks to the island territory.
