Escaped prisoner to be extradited this Sunday

PHILIPSBURG--Elston Fos (51), the escaped manslaughter convict who was caught and arrested on Friday, July 22, will be extradited to The Netherlands on Sunday, July 29, Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos told The Daily Herald Tuesday.

ORANJESTAD — Prisoners of the Correctional Institute Aruba (KIA) instituted summary proceedings against the government again. According to lawyer John Zara, nothing happened despite a verdict from the Court early last year to prevent rainwater from entering the cells.

THE HAGUE - Dutch citizens living abroad who adopt a new nationality must give up their Dutch nationality, although there are some exceptions. A group of Dutch expats finds that highly unfair and has been fighting for more than a year to get off the table the plans of the Dutch government to propose a law forbidding dual citizenship.

WILLEMSTAD--Hotel workers in Curaçao who saw water coming out from under the door of one of the rooms Sunday evening discovered two children floating in the bathtub. The 35-year-old mother S.M.P.V. was later rescued from the sea nearby after an apparent suicide attempt.

PHILIPSBURG - The Court of First Instance has ordered Foundation for Academic and Vocational Education (FAVE) to pay monthly salaries to two dismissed members of St. Maarten Academy Preparatory Secondary Vocational Education's (PSVE's) teaching staff retroactively from May 24 until their labour agreements are legally terminated.
