THE HAGUE--The final Round Table Conference (RTC) in The Hague on Thursday serves to determine whether the islands are ready for their new status. There is no room for new negotiations, said Dutch caretaker State Secretary of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Ank Bijleveld-Schouten over the weekend.
Between midnight Friday and Saturday night, Curaçao got a new MFK/PS/MAN Executive Council, the draft constitution for the future country was passed and the incoming Island Council took a decision to participate in Thursday's Round Table Conference (RTC) on the dismantling of the Netherlands Antilles effective 10-10-10.
From 9 July up to and including 20 August 2010, a Social Dialogue took place in Aruba. The Protocol was recently signed by all parties, including the Prime Minister and the Minister of Finance.

The Kingdom Council of Ministers, on the recommendation of Dutch State Secretary for Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Bijleveld-Schouten and Dutch Minister of Justice Hirsch Ballin, has agreed to appoint mr. A.J. Beukenhorst (1953) as a member of the Joint Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The appointment will be effective on 1 October 2010.

PHILIPSBURG--The Executive Council has appealed a May 17 court decision in which the Island Council had been given three months to come up with a new decision on a director's licence application on behalf of The Crew's Nest bar and restaurant.
The Antillean Parliament approved the amendment to the Kingdom Charter on Friday evening after much debate with a 17-4 vote margin. This formalises the emergence of new countries St. Maarten and Curaçao with the dismantling of the Netherlands Antilles on October 10.
PHILIPSBURG--Several organic laws vital in the process to achieve country status for St. Maarten will be tabled by Constitutional Affairs Commissioner William Marlin for approval in the Island Council today.

The Honorable Madam Judge mrs. Lisbeth Hoefdraad, president of the Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, on August 13, 2010 presented not only a new judge to her Court, but the website and new logo of the Court as well.
