Information shared at NuStar meeting

THE HAGUE--The November 18 meeting in The Hague with representatives of NuStar, Statia and the Dutch government was of an informative nature and mainly served to discuss recent governmental developments that affect the facility in St. Eustatius.

Dutch Minister of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations Ronald Plasterk informed the Second Chamber on Tuesday on the November 18 meeting with NuStar. The letter, a request of Member of the Second Chamber Ronald van Raak of the Socialist Party (SP), was released on Thursday.
According to Plasterk, the latest developments were exchanged relating to the Caribbean Netherlands evaluation committee chaired by former Minister Liesbeth Spies, the role of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Kingdom Relations BZK and of National Government Representative Gilbert Isabella.

Also discussed during the meeting were more specific themes like environment and NuStar's contribution to the local supplying of electricity, gasoline and diesel. Talked about were the local taxes, more specifically the legal requirements regarding the harbour rights and taxes secured in the Law on Finances of the public entities.

Plasterk stated that he was informed that Statia's Executive Council planned to submit a new harbour ordinance to the Island Council before the end of this year. The ordinance, which serves as an instrument to regulate matters in the harbour, would replace the earlier 1982 ordinance.
Consultations between NuStar and the Statia government will be taking place on the new proposed harbour ordinance. The BZK Ministry will be providing the necessary support in these consultations, stated Plasterk.
