Retirement for lawyer Ernst Wesselius

KRALENDIJK — Attorney Ernst Wesselius is retiring at the age of 70. In 2007 he left the Public Prosecutor's Office after having been the only prosecutor on Bonaire for years.
 
Ernst Th. Wesselius (1946) graduated in 1974 at the University of Amsterdam. He worked from 1969 through 1978 for a building company, where he specialized in legal procedures in construction work (“Building Right”). 
 
Since 1977 Wesselius has been working for the judiciary, from which 27 years as public prosecutor where he worked  till 1998 in the Netherlands. In the Netherlands he specialized in the field of medical treatments, aviation, fraud and environment.
 
In 1995 he worked five months on demand of the United Nations Human Rights Field Operation as leader of a Netherlands Forensic Investigation Team in Rwanda, Africa, to investigate the genocide that had taken place there in 1994.
 
Between 1995 and 1998 Ernst Wesselius has been sent by the Council of Europe on several missions to the (former Soviet) Republics Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Ukraïne to assist with the change from the Public Prosecutor Services in those new republics.
 
In 1998 he moved to Curaçao where he worked two years as a prosecutor and since 2002 on the stand-alone prosecutor’s office on Bonaire. On Bonaire he specialized on airport security issues.
 
After his retirement as prosecutor in December 2006 he worked as a consultant specialized in legal affairs and in November 2008 he has been sworn in as attorney by the Court of Appeal of the Netherlands Antilles and Curaçao. 
 
Since 2008 he has worked as an attorney for Davidkock Legal on Bonaire where he also is a member of the Bonaire Bar Association.
 
The firm has now two new firm members, Edward Winkel and Luciano Dundas.
 
 
Advocaat Ernst Wesselius met pensioen
 
Ernst Wesselius gaat voor de tweede maal met pensioen. In 2007 verliet hij het Openbaar Ministerie nadat hij jarenlang de enige officier van justitie op Bonaire was geweest. In 2008 ging hij de advocatuur in te gaan en ging samenwerken met advocaat David Kock uit Aruba.
 
Vanwege zijn bekendheid in de Bonairiaanse maatschappij en zijn bereidheid om eenieder te allen tijde bij te staan, werd hij ook als advocaat snel bekend en ingeschakeld. In de loop der jaren heeft hij velen kunnen bijstaan, ook buiten het strafrecht om.
 
Met het bereiken van de zeventigjarige leeftijd heeft Wesselius besloten dat het nu wel tijd was om zijn toga aan de wilgen te hangen en meer tijd aan zichzelf en zijn familie te gaan besteden.
 
Het advocatenkantoor heeft inmiddels twee nieuwe advocaten aangetrokken, te weten Edward Winkel en Luciano Dundas.
