WILLEMSTAD--Several generally well-informed sources report that the secretary-general of Curaçao's Ministry of Finance Jose Jardim has handed in his resignation. Jardim will join the Central Bank of Curaçao and St. Maarten CBCS as of 1 June.
While the position he will hold there is unknown, sources assume that Jardim will join the management.
Jardim was entrusted with daily management of the Ministry of Finance, since the beginning of the new Country Curaçao. Before this, he managed the Directorate of Finance, where he succeeded Gregory Damoen, when the latter went into politics.
Local media had reported that several senior officials at Finance had handed in their resignations. Further inquiry has revealed that Jardim was one of them.
Just like Jardim, other officials are said to be on their way to the Central Bank. In this respect, some sources even speak of an "exodus" at the department.
The Central Bank has been subjected to heavy criticism during the past months, due to the dispute between the MFK/PS/MAN government in Willemstad and the bank's president-director Emsley Tromp.
