New Lieutenant Governor sworn in

KRALENDIJK - Lydia Emerencia was sworn in today as the new Lieutenant Governor of Bonaire.
This is the first time that Bonaire has a ‘female major’ or a ‘Mama di pueblo’, as Government representative Wilbert Stolte called her this morning. During the solemn Island Council meeting, Lydia Emerencia took the oath of office before the Government representative.This ceremony took place in a crowded conference room of the Island Council in Pasanggrahan. The Governor of Curaçao, many family members, friends and acquaintances of the new Lieutenant Governor were present.
Peter Silberie, ad interim lieutenant governor since the departure of Glenn Thodé, handed Emerencia the official necklace and later on also the chairperson’s gavel and the Regulation of Order from the Island Council.
Subsequently, the chairpersons of the parliamentary parties were given the opportunity to welcome the new ‘female’ major.
