Tax agreement Aruba with Bermuda

ORANJESTAD/HAMILTON — Bermuda has signed a bilateral tax agreement with Aruba yesterday. This so-called Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) provides for a complete exchange of information on criminal and civil tax matters between the two islands.

THE HAGUE - The Lower House last week approved a motion initiated by the Antillean organisation OCaN (Organisatie voor Caribische Nederlanders) to have parliament look into the possibility of introducing a fatherhood law.

Master Course Public Sector Dutch Caribbean

On 13 October 2009 a Master Course Public Sector Dutch Caribbean was organized by the Royal Dutch Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the SOAB, the internal accountant for the Netherlands Antilles and the Island Government of Curacao. The master course was attended by 35 registered accountants from The Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
DNB and DSB Bank arm themselves with experts financial supervision

Now that DSB is heading for bankruptcy the parties involved have armed themselves with legal advisers. The DNB (De Nederlandsche Bank) and DSB Bank seem to aim their strategy on financial supervision. Both have enlisted the services of a lawyer with experience with the responsabilities and tasks of regulators.
New website DCSX

The website of the Dutch Caribbean Securities Exchange (DCSX) is in the air: www.dcsx.an or www.dcsx.org. On the site visitors can find information on the exchange, the listing process, listing advisers and the members. The site is in English and Portugese and will soon also be available in Spanish.
GOL raises US$346 million in equity offering

Mattos Filho, Veiga Filho, Marrey Jr e Quiroga Advogados and Shearman & Sterling LLP have helped low-fare Brazilian airline GOL raise US$346 million in a share offering on the local and international markets. GOL Linhas Aereas Inteligentes, the second largest airline in Brazil, also performs flights to Curacao.
Dutch Government funds for UNA and USM

THE HAGUE - The Dutch Government has agreed to invest 690,000 euros in higher education in the Netherlands Antilles, via the University of the Netherlands Antilles (UNA) and the University of St. Martin (USM). The money will be used to make higher education on the islands “more attractive” and to prevent brain drain.

Minister Ersilia de Lannooy (Finances, PNP) signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) between the Kingdom of the Netherlands (for the benefit of the Netherlands Antilles) and St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
Van Doorne wins Sonja Boekmanprize

The Dutch law firm Van Doorne, that is associated with VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, established in The Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, has won the Sonja Boekman prize. The jury chose VanDoorne as the firm with the most effective policy on diversity for women. The prize was given to VanDoorne by FNV-president Agnes Jongerius at the Annual Meeting of the Dutch Bar Association.
New Judges at the Court

This afternoon four new judges will be officialiy installed at the Joint Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. These judges are Mrs. M.T. Boerlage, Mr. J.R. Sijmonsma, Mr. J.P. de Haan and Mrs. M.W. Scholte, the latter as deputy of the presiding judge. Judges of all other islands flew in yesterday and today to be present at this official event.

Tax Treaty Aruba with France

ORANJESTAD/PARIS — A delegation of the Directorate of Taxes (SIAD) has recently reached an agreement with France on the exchange of tax information. The draft-agreement of the Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) was initialed by both countries. It is expected that the final agreement will be signed within short.

Isla agrees on arbitration

PWFC-Chairman Angelo Meyer announced that trade union PWFC and the Isla-refinery have reached an agreement on an arbitration course for the payment of the indexation of the Isla-personnel over 2008. The Isla and PWFC differ of opinion on a percentage of 2.9 as compensation for the increase of the costs of living.

Securities exchange in Curaçao goes live

After a long period of anticipation, the Dutch Caribbean Securities Exchange (“DCSX”) is scheduled to be operational in the fall of 2009. The DCSX was incorporated on 5 May 2009. The DCSX is an international exchange organized under the laws of the Netherlands Antilles for the purpose of listing and trading domestic and international securities.
