- October 15, 2009 10:01 AM
On 13 October 2009 a Master Course Public Sector Dutch Caribbean was organized by the Royal Dutch Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the SOAB, the internal accountant for the Netherlands Antilles and the Island Government of Curacao. The master course was attended by 35 registered accountants from The Netherlands, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
In this Master Course Frank Kunneman, partner of VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne, lectured on corporate governance and regulation in the Dutch Caribbean. Among others he gave an introduction on the brand new legislation on corporate governance for government-owned companies that came into effect on 12 October 2009 for the Island Territory of Curacao. Kunneman discussed the decreasing effectiveness and the increasing costs of accumulating more legislation and supervision on financial institutions and other public and private companies. He also discussed the accumulating risks for supervisors like accountants, members of a Board of Supervisory Directors and regulators to become liable as a result of deficient supervision.
