Justice Ministers meet in St. Maarten

THE HAGUE--Dutch Minister of Justice and Security Ferd Grapperhaus is in St. Maarten today and Wednesday for meetings with the Justice Ministers of the three other countries in the Kingdom.
 
The Dutch Government Information Service RVD announced Grapperhaus’ visit to St. Maarten early Tuesday. The main reason for the Minister’s visit is the so-called Judicial Four Party Consultation (“Justitieel Vierpartijenoverleg” JVO).
 
St. Maarten Minister of Justice Cornelius de Weever will be hosting the JVO this time. The JVO takes place two times per year, every time in a different country of the Kingdom. The other two attending Justice Ministers will be Quincy Girigorie of Curaçao and Andin Bikker of Aruba.
 
On the agenda are several recurring topics such as the strengthening of the detective cooperation, the joint approach towards transgressing crime and the strengthening of the law enforcement, also in cooperation with the United States.
 
Also, on the agenda are the strengthening of border control on the islands, and the immigration and refugee policy. Prior to the JVO, Minister Grapperhaus will pay a visit to St. Maarten Governor Eugene Holiday. 

Lawyer Roeland Zwanikken considers legal action against ABN AMRO Bank

THE HAGUE--Attorney-at-law Roeland Zwanikken at St. Maarten’s BZSE law office is considering legal action against the intention of the Dutch ABN AMRO Bank to close the bank accounts of its clients in the Dutch Caribbean.
