More than 130 attendees at Caribbean Cybercrime Conference

ORANJESTAD - The first Caribbean Cybercrime Conference was a big success. The Conference was held on Wednesday, November 16th 2016 and took place at the Renaissance Hotel in Aruba.
The organization was in the hands of the Attorney General’s Office of Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the BES-islands and the Criminal Investigation Cooperation Team (Recherche Samenwerkings Team, RST).
Speakers included Louis van Zwieten, senior prosecutor working at EuroJust for Cybercrime with his keynote presentation entitled "Threats and challenges in the area of cybercrime and cyber security." This was followed by a number of sessions on topics related to cybercrime and digital forensics. The sessions were chaired by Nick Drehel (Access Data), Craig Guymo (Magnet Forensics), Bob Elder (Teel Technologies Canada), Michael Stout, Eric Boerboom (RST), Matthew Cook (Amped Software), Kevin Thomas (fernico) and Chris Stippich (Digital Intelligence). The closing keynote speech, entitled "Demystifying the Dark Web," was given by Michael Stout. The introductions to the conference was given by André Hackers DataExpert, RST head Martine Vis and Chief Prosecutor for Sint Maarten, Ton Maan, replacing the Attorney General for Curaçao, Sint Maarten and the BES islands, Guus Schram.
The purpose of this Caribbean Cybercrime Conference was primarily to raise awareness of the growing threat of cybercrime and the growing demand for digital investigations. The aim is also to explain what digital forensics and cybercrime.
More than 130 people have taken part in the conference. Among them representatives of the government, judiciary, police forces of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten as well as representatives of private enterprises in the Caribbean.
