KRALENDIJK — Bonaire has its own judge for the first time in history. Yesterday judge Frans Veenhof was sworn in as a member of the Joint Court of Justice of the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
Until recently a judge from Curaçao or Aruba flew to Bonaire every week, in this case Eunice Saleh.
Veenhof (1949) was a judge at the Court from 1992 to 1995, but at that time he was working from Curaçao. Previously he was working as a judge in Alkmaar, and for the past years in Haarlem.
Veenhof was apppointed for a maximum period of 1 1/2 years. The reason for this is the small scale of the island (14.000 inhabitants), the lack of contact with other judges and the absence of a good library on the island.
