Wescot-Williams to increase push for draft timeshare law

PHILIPSBURG--Democratic Party (DP) leader Parliament Chairwoman Sarah Wescot-Williams says she will continue the push to get the draft timeshare law to protect especially buyers, worked on by Parliament.
 
The draft law was formulated by one-term DP Member of Parliament Leroy de Weever in response to a series of mishaps in the country’s timeshare industry that left many buyers out in the cold.
 
The initiative law has been going through the regulatory channels since late 2013. One of the first hiccups with the legislation, cited by the Council of Advice, was that it was written in English and not Dutch, the legal language of the country.
 
Wescot-Williams told the press at a party press conference on Monday in Parliament House that moving ahead with the law was “put on the backburner” by the former United People’s (UP) party-led coalition.
 
Her intention is to work on getting the law passed by Parliament as soon as possible.
