Argentina negotiates with Antilles

BUENOS AIRES/WILLEMSTAD — An official delegation of the Argentina tax authorities will be visiting the Antilles later this year to start negotiations on an agreement regarding the avoidance of double taxation (DTAA - Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement).
This is a significant result of the conversations held by State Secretary Alex Rosaria (Finances, PNP) in Buenos Aires yesterday.
As soon as this tax treaty has been concluded, Argentina will take the Antilles off their fiscal black list and place it on the white list. “In particular, this will pave the way for our international financial services sector to do business with this South American giant”, says Rosaria.
For more than ten years, the Antilles have attempted in vain to arrange being taken off the Argentina black list. The Antilles continue their intensive efforts to be placed on the white list of countries of importance in the financial world. These initiatives recently led to being placed on the grey list by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The seven tax treaties, which the Antilles have concluded, would be insufficient for notification on the OECD’s white list. The Antilles still have another nine treaties, which should be signed before the end of this year. The total of sixteen exceeds the required twelve in order to qualify for a white listing.
The Antilles will not take a rest after the new agreements with Argentina. The more tax treaties and white listings the better, in view of the current OECD-criteria of ‘at least twelve DTAA’s, which, unannounced, could change into ‘at least twenty DTAA’s’.
