Increase in border controls St. Martin

MARIGOT--The Préfecture indicated over the weekend that the presence of Gendarmes, Police aux Frontières (PAF) and customs officers at border points of the island will become more noticeable in view of the state of emergency extended to French overseas territories.
 
The above measure is part of the security operation “Vigipirate,” France’s national security alert system. Since 2014, the colour-coded threat levels have been changed to just two: vigilance and attack alert.
 
The Préfecture added the measures are also in line with internal security and cooperation with St. Maarten, where mixed French-side-Dutch-side patrols will be coordinated with the Dutch side government.
