Former chief prosecutor De Wit to Antillean OM

Former chief prosecutor of the office of the public prosecutor in Amsterdam, Leo de Wit, is going to help with the reorganization of the Antillean Public prosecutor. He’s going to work as advisor for seven months on the reorganization of the OM and police in the Netherlands Antilles.
Leo de Wit (64) was in military service as secretary of the court-martial from 1969 till 1971. He was head of the department international legal assistance and head of the department criminal investigation policy at the ministry of Justice between 1971 and 1978. He then went to work for the OM as public prosecutor in Rotterdam, and in Amsterdam. He went from acting chief prosecutor of the police region Zaanstreek Waterland to chief prosecutor in Breda, Rotterdam, and Amsterdam respectively.
Lots of cases passed his office, from cleansing Perron Nul to the persecution of Willem Holleeder. He had no problem with this. His problem was the personal tensions he had to tackle as head of the office; for example the threats of public prosecutor Koos Plooy and the conflict between those that were in favour and against a deal with the crown witness. “The distrust was difficult to manage”, said De Wit in a farewell interview with the magazine.
