Taxi union wins her case

The judge has put taxi-union Sinusta in the right against Sunny Adventure Tours.  This agency may not pick up tourists from the airport and transfer them to their hotel or elsewhere, because only taxis are allowed to do this, according to the LAW Public Transportation.

The Sinusta-committee considers this a first victory in her fight against illegal transportation of vacationers.   Before the verdict, taxi drivers that transport mainly tourists from the airport to hotels and apartments were confronted again with persons that transport vacationers without permission.  The police had to be called again to stop this illegal transportation.

Sinusta-secretary Enith Fernan said that the moment the police arrived, the illegal drivers drove away.  She said that during the weekend, this group had rented big busses that were parked outside the airport area along the public road, while especially Venezuelan drivers walked to the airport to recruit their customers. Fernan considers the verdict as a new impulse in Sinusta’s striving for combating the illegal transportation of tourists on the island.  Sunny Adventure Tours has instituted the lawsuit and must now pay the taxi-union 5000 guilders every time it continues transporting tourists from the airport.

Sinusta is managed by Edsel Doran, the successor of Harold Meyer, who had problems with the functioning and the duties of the administrators within the organization.   He decided to turn in his resignation, after a members’ meeting.
