Churandy-case on January 15

The Courts of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has again adjourned the hearing of Churandy Martina’s disqualification on the Olympic 200 meter. The hearing in the Swiss Lausanne will now take place on January 15, 2009.
The Netherlands Antillean Olympic Committee (Naoc) has since the end of August been trying to get the disqualification of Martina in Peking reversed. Martina won silver on the 200 meter, but was later disqualified by the organization of the Olympic Games, because he didn’t stay in his lane.
Naoc’s defence is based on the Olympic rule that the Americans have protested too late against Martina and that their protest should not have been allowed. The American protest against Martina came after the organization in Peking had disqualified Wallace Spearmon from the USA, who ended third after Martina, but who has also stepped on the line.
