Holiday requests Wescot-Williams to form new government

HARBOUR VIEW - Governor Eugene Holiday requested on Friday for caretaker Prime Minister/Democratic Party leader Sarah Wescot-Williams to form a new government as formateur. Wescot-Williams will inform the governor regularly during the formation process. She has been requested to present him a final report of the formation ultimately by 7 June.

The governor requested the formateur "to give priority to the completion of the process towards the establishment of the budget for 2013, to initiate measures aimed at stabilizing the political process and at making the execution of the electoral ordinance possible."

The governor took into consideration the expressed willingness of the United People's (UP) Party, DP and independent Member of Parliament Romain Laville, as well as the results of the past two days of consultations, in appointing Wescot-Williams. They had a meeting on Friday.

Wescot-Williams was requested to form a new government, based on a new majority in Parliament, and with ministers "who are committed to the promotion of the wellbeing of St. Maarten and dedicated to jointly execute a governing accord," to be agreed upon by coalition partners DP, UP and Laville.

The governor emphasized the importance of the strict observance of the regulatory requirements, including the screening criteria, applicable to the appointment for candidate ministers.
