A solemn meeting of the legislature at 10:30am will precede the funeral. Chairman Mike Franco (PAIS) and the seven fraction leaders are expected to speak.

 

It is not the first time that a parliamentarian died while in function on the island. Then Antillean Parliament member Leslie Navarro, brother of current caretaker Justice Minister Nelson, passed away in 1992 and the protocol used for that funeral will also be considered in this case.

 

The coffin will be carried into the assembly hall, after that it will be taken to SDK where the people can bid farewell to the leader.

 

Meanwhile, the brothers V.S. (27) and H.D. (19) Martis, who reported to the police station Brievengat last Tuesday afternoon in connection with the "Patriota" video in which they appeared to take responsibility for the assassination of Wiels, and warned other "traitors" that a similar fate awaited them, deny having anything to do with the actual killing. They claim it was a bad joke, but the judge of instruction prolonged their detention by eight days on Friday.

 

In addition to their threat being considered a serious matter, they remain suspects of premeditated murder.

 

According to sources, the father of the two young men is the owner of a retail business on the island and both were supposedly very involved with the MFK-campaign for the elections in 2010.

 

After the arrests police officers conducted house searches at the residence of the suspects on Hydraweg in Jongbloed and at the family business on Comanchestraat where the police officers found various items that are very important for the investigation.
