SER must get an important part in the new state settlement

Stanley Betrian, chair of the Social Economic Council (SER), is of the opinion that the advisory body must play a prominent part in the new Land Curacao. He makes a case for including the SER in the state settlement, as a required advisory body of the future government of Land Curacao.
The SER is not explicitly mentioned in the concept-state settlement that the BC has sent to the Island Council. Only the Advisory Council, the Audit Office, the Ombudsman, and standing advisory colleges, which is also the SER, are explicitly mentioned in chapter 4 that concerns the advisory body of the government.
In section 70 of the concept is mentioned that standing advisory colleges are established via national ordinances. The composition, institutions, authorities, but also expansion of the duty-packages of these bodies, can also be fixed via a national ordinance.
Betrian indicates that in the state settlement must be included that the government of the future Land Curacao is required to get advice from the SER for important social-economic questions. “The SER is an ideal platform for the government to sense the social partners’ opinion on proposals she wants to introduce. The advice of the SER must also be published afterwards, so that the public can read it.”
This organ can also be enlarged. The employers’ and employees’ organization has currently seats in the SER. We may have to consider a situation in which also non-governmental organizations become part of SER. Considering the part these organizations play in the society, this must definitely be looked at.”
