Anguilla minister arrested, charged with sexual offences

ANGUILLA--Minister of Home Affairs, Walcott Richardson was arrested and charged on Friday, February 1, with two counts of indecent assault.
 
He appeared before the Magistrate and was granted bail of EC $110,000. He is due to appear in court again on May 10, 2013.
 
Governor Alistair Harrison told members of the press that the matter is "sub judice" and the law will take its course. He said that the Constitution calls for him to make a decision after consultation with the Chief Minister.
 
He agreed that for some time he has had concerns about Richardson and he hopes the matter can be resolved before he departs as governor.

When contacted, Chief Minister Hubert Hughes said that it is too soon to make any announcement and that he is in touch with the Governor about the matter.
