Colombia and Costa Rica open doors to budget business hotels

LATIN AMERICA - Costa Rica’s BLP Abogados and Colombia’s Cárdenas & Cárdenas have helped the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the German Investment and Development Corporation (DEG) grant a US$30 million loan to Mexico’s leading budget business hotel chain, Hoteles City Express, to build hotels in Costa Rica and Colombia.

 
The financing, which closed at the end of November, was formed of two separate US$15 million loans from the IFC and DEG. Consortium - Laclé & Gutiérrez in Costa Rica and Gómez-Pinzón Zuleta Abogados in Colombia advised City Express.
 
Since 2002 Hoteles City Express has developed and run budget business hotels in Mexico and Latin America, with 69 hotels across the region. The total cost of City Express’ hotel building project, which will see hotels built in Mexico and Chile as well as major cities in Costa Rica and Colombia, is estimated to come to US$157.5 million, of which IFC lending is expected to total US$52.5 million.
