Treaty with Colombia in hand owing to ‘Interbolsa-scandal’

WILLEMSTAD/BOGOTA — Outgoing interim-minister of Finance, José Jardim, is negotiating with his Columbian colleague Mauricio Cárdenas a Tax Information and Exchange Agreement (TIEA) between both countries, following the ‘Interbolsa-scandal’ in Columbia, according to several Columbian media.
This scandal led to negative publicity for Curaçao. The huge and meanwhile closed down Columbian stockbroker, had supposedly channeled millions. Premium Capital domiciled on Curaçao is supposedly connected with this. The current investigation in Columbia is to disclose if this is true or not. According to a source, the international financial service sector on Curaçao sounded the alarm with the minister to make a statement to prevent serious damage to the sector’s reputation on Curaçao.
Curaçao was to inform Columbia that the island is professionally and entirely willing to give transparency with an investigation into possible irregularities. However, this requires signing a TIEA. Representatives of the sector, Minister Jardim and interim-Premier Stanley Betrian met last week. Also the embassy of the Kingdom in Bogotá is involved with the case. None of the ministers were available for comment today.
