PHILIPSBURG--Bailiffs raided several stores on Front and Back Streets, confiscating a plethora of counterfeit merchandise like clothes, shoes, bags and jewellery, on Wednesday afternoon 5 September.
Bailiff Karl Arnell:"Some of the counterfeit merchandise bore labels such as Puma, Tommy Hilfiger, Cartier, Dockers, Quicksilver and Louis Vuitton.
A raid like this was carried out earlier this year and Arnell said that in cases like these "you will always have a lot [of counterfeit merchandise, ed.]."
Bags featured prominently among the items confiscated while the number of jewellery items - mostly watches - seized was minimal.
The consequences for storeowners who sell counterfeit merchandise are "heavy, heavy fines," Arnell said.
He said as soon as officials complete their investigations with store owners, a date will be set when the seized items will be destroyed by burning.
