“Pool” of good Supervisory Directors

A ‘supervisory director’ course has been set up under the Good Governance chair of the University of the Netherlands Antilles (UNA). Recently, a number of companies have received correspondence regarding this new course.

“Good Governance assumes that the supervisory directors of public and private companies possess a certain amount of basic knowledge and skills. This requires clarity about procedures with regard to the appointment and dismissal of supervisory directors. A specially tailored course program provides the impetus for the development of a ‘pool’ of well-versed potential candidates available for these appointments”, says a letter sent to the management of various companies from the Good Governance chair of the University of the Netherlands Antilles.

The organisation is hoping to attract course participants who will sign up for a program of five half-day components leading to a ‘Registered Potential Director’ qualification. The course is intended for current supervisory directors, but also for other interested persons, and costs US$1,975. The course is spread over two-and-a-half days and has been structured as a seminar in which course participants themselves make presentations and learn the most important competencies through role-plays and exercises.

The subjects covered include knowledge of Dutch Antillean regulations and corporate finance, organisational theory and the management of performance. One of the more practical components is the management of media, auditors and politicians. The course leaders include Frank Kunneman, Roel in ‘t Veld, Miguel Goede, Steven Martina and Etienne Ys.
