Robbie dos Santos arrested in Curaçao

WILLEMSTAD - One of the biggest gambling operators in the former Netherlands Antilles Robbie dosSantoswas arrested in Curaçao Wednesday, in connection with the large-scale “Bientu” investigations into tax fraud, money-laundering and forgery.
The Prosecutor’s Office in Curaçao announced his arrest Wednesday.
In addition to being the owner of highly-popular Robbie’s Lottery, Dos Santos is also the half-brother of Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin. He is also one of the financiers of governing party MFK of Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte.
Police searched Robbie’s Lottery offices, including the office in St. Maarten, nine months ago and also searched Dos Santos’ house in Curaçao. The Prosecutor’s Office also placed a lien on several of the gambling operator’s bank accounts in theUnited States. It involves an amount in excess of US $30 million.
