WILLEMSTAD - For the second time, law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne organized an in-house day for students of the graduation class “VWO” (pre-university education).
On this day, twenty-eight Curaçao students of various schools came to take a look to be informed about studying law.
On Monday, March 26, last, the students got acquainted with the legal profession and the firm. Twenty-eight students who enrolled were received at the firm at Julianaplein. After a presentation of partner Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer on the topic “What is a lawyer”, the students were presented a case. In teams, led by lawyers of the firm, the students discussed current topics and substantiated arguments. This was followed by an enthusiastic debate between the groups, and subsequently a tour of the law firm and drinks in the courtyard.
Claudette York, dean of the Peter Stuyvesant College: “The students indicate that they are properly supported by this experience to start the studies self-confidently. They really like to experience what capacities are required to be able to conduct a debate. One of the students said that last Monday’s meeting gave him the right push to make a final decision. He is now convinced of his choice and will go for it!”
Riorgean Windster, 18 years old, in the graduation class of the Radulphus College: “Since I was fifteen I have known I wanted to study law. I enrolled for International and European Law in Tilburg. It was the right moment to take a look at a law firm during an in-house day; it gave me a good impression of the legal profession. The atmosphere at the office is pleasant, the lawyers are kind and competent. I look forward to studying in the Netherlands in a few months.”
After the success of the first in-house day last year, the law firm also organized an in-house day in Aruba early this month.
