Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BTP) ordered to supervise the Antillean internet network

Telecom-minister Maurice Adriaens (FOL) has ordered Bureau Telecommunication and Post (BTP) to establish an institution that must supervise and control the internet in the Antilles; a kind of internet police.
The establishment of an internet police for the Antilles is the result of two international conferences on internet communication technology (ict) that took place in the Breezes Hotel last week. The Latin American and Caribbean Internet Addresses Registry (Lacnic) as well as the Caribbean Telecommunications Union (CTU) had two conferences on the island last week. Adriaens looks back very satisfied on both conferences that were attended by lots of people from the region.
According to Adriaens, apart from the innumerable developments that internet has to offer, there are also several matters that can be considered as negative, among others spam (unsolicited advertisement sent by email) and spyware (computer programs that gather information about a user and transfer these to an external party).
The minister also pointed out that there are persons that get established in a country in order to harass a third party with spam or spyware from that country. “In order to combat these detrimental developments, countries must separately conduct their own supervision on the internet. This decision was made internationally.” The minister has therefore commissioned BTP to establish such institution to supervise the Antillean internet network.
