MOT receives 20,000 reports per year

Thanks to the efforts of the current Report Centre Unusual Transactions Netherlands Antilles (MOT), the reputation of the institution has increased. Per year, the MOT receives approximately 20,000 reports from both the financial and the non-financial sector.
Most of the reports are from Curaçao, about 12.000 to 14,000. Approximately 6.000 reports are received from the Windward Islands on an annual basis, and another 2.000 from Bonaire.
That the increase in the number of reports is due to the MOT’s reputation is endorsed by the Representative of the Netherlands in the Netherlands Antilles Rob Vermaas as well as the MOT-director, Kenneth Dambruck.
Vermaas, “Also the financial world is realizing more and more that it pays to keep the financial market clean. That the number of reports has substantially increased the last years is in itself a good sign.”
Nevertheless, he keeps his options open and states the increase in the number of reports could also be a bad sign. “The pivot, of course lies in the enforcement chain within which the necessary efforts must be made to act upon the received reports.”
