Driving instructor faces trial for issuing false driving licences
- May 10, 2017 7:46 AM
MARIGOT--A resident of Dutch Quarter, B.R. is to appear in court in Marigot on September 28, 2017, accused of selling false documents, namely international driving licences, and swindling many innocent victims.
B.R., a driving school instructor, was recently taken into custody following the conclusion of an investigation by Groupe d’ Investigation et d’Enquête (GIE), a department of Police aux Frontières (PAF) specialised in detecting false documents.
According to GIE spokesperson, B.R. sold international driving licences to victims between July 2015 and September 2016 and led them to believe they were valid on both sides of the island. He ordered the template of the licences on the Internet and then added the names and photos of his clients using fraudulent methods.
Four victims who filed complaints will also be giving evidence in court on September 28 and bringing a civil case against B.R. He reportedly charged these four victims $4,500.
GIE indicated B.R. admitted to selling some 20 false international permits but GIE believe the number sold could be 10 times more than that.
PAF recommends anyone who has purchased an international driving permit to have it checked for validity by the services of PAF.
In another case last week, a woman from the Dominican Republic was held for being in possession of a false passport from Anguilla when she attempted to fly to Guadeloupe from Grand Case Airport.
