2 million euros in roof of ambulance confiscated

ALMERE--The Dutch tax department seized more than two million euros at the harbour in the city of Vlissingen, hidden inside the roof of an ambulance that was being shipped to Suriname.

A 44-year-old man from the city of Almere has been taken into custody in connection with the find. The authorities did not give his name or descent, but they said that he was linked to a company that offered top shelf cars for sale without ever reporting income tax. They suspect that the company served as a front for whitewashing money earned from shipping expensive cars and smuggling funds to Suriname.

The money that the officers found in the ambulance, was packed in two plastic bags stacked inside the ingeniously constructed double compartment in the ambulance roof.

Aside from the ambulance and money, tax investigators also confiscated a brand new Jaguar at the harbour. They also searched a warehouse and the suspect’s home in Almere.
