Lottery boss Robbie dos Santos held in Wiels murder case

WILLEMSTAD - Police in Curaçao arrested Robbie's Lottery owner Robbie dos Santos early Tuesday morning in connection with the 2013 killing of PS leader Helmin Magno Wiels.
 
Authorities confirmed that the suspect had been held in the "Maximus" probe targeting the intellectual authors of the paid assassination, although he had not yet been charged. The trial for the actual murder based on the "Magnus" investigation is scheduled for next week.
 
The lottery boss is the second person detained in the "Maximus" case in less than a week. The arrest reportedly took place at his home in Jan Sofat.
Police held ex-finance minister George Jamaloodin (MFK) last week Thursday. Former PS minister Carlos Monk also was interrogated in this case, but allowed to leave afterwards.
 
Parliamentarian Wiels was shot five times on a public beach in broad daylight in May 2013. The 54-year-old politician was the leader of political party "Pueblo Soberano" (PS), which supports Curaçao's independence from the Netherlands.
 
Authorities have not revealed a possible motive. Several house searches also were taking place.
