French Government announces exceptional aid for businesses Saint Martin

MARIGOT--The French government has announced the creation of exceptional assistance to help businesses in St. Martin and St. Barths to restart after the passing of Hurricanes Irma and Maria.
 
This aid aims to support commercial or industrial companies and artisans where the critical situation threatens sustainability and service despite other measures also implemented.
 
The aid is not intended to replace other public measures such as insurance but rather to supplement them as appropriate. For eligibility, businesses have to be up-to-date with their tax and social security contributions, be registered in the register of trade and companies, trades and crafts directory or health registry.
 
It applies to businesses whose normal activity could not resume on September 16 due to unsafe or inaccessibility of the premises, destruction or damage to the means of production and destruction or damage to stocks of supplies or products.
The amount of aid can be given in a grant allocated to any type of business in amounts of 1,000, 5,000 or 10,000 euros depending on the amount of damage, providing companies guarantee they are keeping their employees on the job through partial unemployment to support 100 per cent of the minimum wage level.
 
This measure will end on December 1, 2017. For more detailed information and how to apply for assistance contact the Chamber of Commerce in Concordia. Application forms will be available to fill in at the Chamber as of Monday, October 16, 2017.
