ORANJESTAD - In September 2015 the government of Aruba awarded the concession for the PPP Watty Vos Boulevard project to Mota-Engil. It marked the start of the tender procedure's Financial Close phase.

 

This phase was completed successfully on Thursday 23 February.

 

From the time that the tender was granted up to the closing of the so-called Design Build Finance Maintenance contract and the associated financing, Mota-Engil was assisted by a team of lawyers from VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne. Partners Focco Lunsingh Scheurleer and Tom Peeters, associate Brechtje Huiskes and junior associate Vincent Abbing advised Mota-Engil about the DBFM contract, the financing and the most suitable corporate law structure for carrying out the activities of Mota-Engil and the financiers.

 

The Watty Vos Boulevard project has a value of USD 100 million and involves the design, construction, financing and maintenance of the Watty Vos Boulevard in Aruba. This includes the construction of a 7 kilometer long new road around Oranjestad, the renovation of the existing road and the design and construction of 13 intersections and 2 viaducts. A bike path will also be designed and constructed along almost the entire route. 

 

Now that the Financial Close phase has been completed, the construction and installation work on the Watty Vos Boulevard can be started. The project is expected to be completed by mid-2019.
