Judge ruled that seizure against Isla needs to Bb lifted

WILLEMSTAD – The Court of Justice ruled today in favor of the Curaçao oil refinery Isla. The environmental organizations SMOC and Humane Care Curaçao and the 22 civilians have seized the oil refinery’s accounts for the sum of 75 million guilders.
 
The judge ordered these organizations and the civilians to lift this seizure.
 
This must be done two days after Isla has paid the legal costs of 32,000 guilders, or, if that has already happened, within two days after the ruling today. The judge made this decision in the Court of first instance.
 
The sum that was seized is equivalent to the penalty determined by the court in 2010 for exceeding the annual standard for sulfur dioxide emissions.
 
The environmental organizations thought that this has happened in 2013. The Isla then filed a lawsuit against the organizations and the 22 civilians. The Court has now determined that the judge must indicate in a court proceeding, whether the standard was actually exceeded in 2013. SMOC, Humane Care Curaçao and the 22 civilians are prohibited to seize the accounts until that ruling.
