Parliament still request advice on BOB Law

The Minister of Justice, Elmer Wilsoe (PS) adjusted the draft for the National Regulation Exceptional Tracking Authorities (BOB) on certain points.

However, the Advisory Council has not studied the adjustments and the States still want the latter to do so.

This was mentioned during the Central Committee meeting yesterday. Although the draft was already presented to the States of the Netherlands Antilles last year for discussion, the parliament had passed this on to the States of Curaçao and the latter wants the Advisory Council to study the changes.

The BOB Law allows heavier methods in investigations, such as using wiretapping services, pseudo purchase or using confiscated goods. This is sometimes necessary because the organized, international crime is becoming cleverer. To stay in line internationally, the BOB Law must become effective. However, because it also intrudes on one’s privacy, the current minister sealed the draft legally. For instance, he added the phase ‘and other urgent changes’ to the article Exceptional Tracking Authorities.

The delay of the introduction has already led to negative international criticism on the country Curaçao several times. The parties in the States therefore agree that the law should become effective as soon as possible. Nevertheless, they first want clarification from the Minister, who is to give a reply to the final report of the committee in writing.
