Governors sworn in

THE HAGUE--Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands swore in Eugene Holiday as Governor of St. Maarten and Frits Goedgedrag as Governor of Curaçao on Thursday morning.
The swearing in took place at Palace Huis ten Bosch in The Hague in the presence of the wives of the two Governors, Marie-Louise Holiday-Hazel and Dulcie Goedgedrag-Terborg.
The appointments of Goedgedrag and Holiday go into effect on October 10 when the Netherlands Antilles is officially dismantled and Curaçao and St. Maarten become separate countries within the Kingdom.
The swearing in is historical, because St. Maarten never had its own Governor. With St. Maarten attaining the status of country within the Kingdom, St. Maarten is getting its own Governor. Up till now St. Maarten resorted under the Governor of the Netherlands Antilles.
Goedgedrag, currently Governor of the Netherlands Antilles, will be Curaçao's first Governor.
