Kingdom Charter change for public meeting of parliament
- August 09, 2010 6:59 AM
The changes to the Kingdom Charter to include new countries St. Maarten and Curaçao and other minor adjustments were handled and approved by the Central Committee of Parliament on Thursday. The changes will now be dealt with in a public meeting of parliament.
The charter changes, once adopted by the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba parliament, will list the Netherlands, Aruba, St. Maarten, and Curaçao as partners in the Dutch Kingdom. The BES islands of Bonaire, St. Eustatius, and Saba are to become Dutch public entities.
As another preparation for constitutional change on 10-10-10, no budget for 2011 will be prepared by the Central Government. The country Netherlands Antilles will cease to exist on October 10, making it unnecessary to prepare a budget.
The Central Committee also handled a request from Finance Minister Ersilia de Lannooy not to submit a 2011 budget. This matter will also be dealt with in an upcoming public meeting of parliament.
