200 million for Curacao
- May 24, 2010 6:22 AM
Finance Commissioner Mike Willem said the Island Territory would soon get a NAf. 200-million windfall. The extra revenues stem from a judgment of the European Court in the framework of the Kingdom Tax Regulation BRK.
The judgment involves an amount of 115 million euros. This amount will be transferred to the Netherlands Antilles soon. Willem calculated that Curaçao was entitled to 75 per cent of this amount, which boils down to 85 million euros, or approximately NAf. 200 million.
Willem hastened to emphasise that this extra amount was of an incidental nature, so that the money would therefore have to be used for incidental, rather than structural expenditures.
The commissioner could not indicate a possible allocation of the extra 200 million. He said no political decision had been taken on that yet, but it was clear that part of it would be used as a buffer to counterbalance possible future setbacks.
